Guidebook for RedM

A new-player guide book for RedM (VORP, RSG or QBCore RedM, through the free poggy_core) that looks like it was printed in 1901: a tooled leather cover with gilt lettering and your logo, aged pages, a self-numbering contents page and real page turns. Write your own chapters in one simple file and the book lays itself out.

Give new players a guide book that looks like it was printed in 1901. A tooled leather cover with gilt lettering and your server's logo opens onto aged, foxed pages set in period typefaces, with red chapter numbers, decorated first letters, running heads and old-style page numbers. Pages turn over in 3D, just like a real book.

Works on VORP, RSG Core and QBCore RedM through the free poggy_core.

What players get

  • A real book. Cover, title page, a Contents page that numbers itself, and chapters and sections you write.
  • Page turning. Click a page corner or use the arrow keys, and the leaf turns over. Click any line of the Contents to jump straight to it.
  • Easy to open. Use the Survival Guide item from the inventory, or type /guide.
  • A welcome for new characters. Brand-new characters are given the book (if your starter items don't already) and it opens for them once they've spawned. Characters that existed before you installed it are left alone.

For server owners

  • Write, don't design. All your text goes in one file, book.lua, as simple HTML. The book lays itself out: long sections carry on over the page, and paragraphs and lists split neatly between pages.
  • Boxed notices, price lists with dotted leaders, ornaments, small headings and pictures are all built in.
  • Swap in your own logo, or use a full cover picture of your own.
  • Every button and message is in config.lua, so it's easy to translate. The /guide command can be switched off or made to need the item.
  • Fonts are included, so nothing loads from the internet.
  • Install guide with the item image and a copy-paste SQL.
  • Open source: readable, editable Lua and JS, no escrow.
